Oh How I Miss That Sweet Boy

I can't tell you how much I miss that boy. His smile could light up a room.

Everyday, several times a day we would have to flush his buddies(AKA Cental Line). This became part of our lives like brushing our teeth or changing our underware! It took some getting use to at first but eventually...

Jake insisted on doing the job all by himself. Can you imagine. I think he was 3 years old here, and look what the kid became a custom to. At home he was a party favorite. His friends, especially Emma would love for Jake to pull back on the syringe and fill it with blood. Everyone in the room would say EWHHHHHHH and Jake would just laugh. It was hilarious.

When we were inpatient, keeping the kids entertained was always a trick. They had a play room you could go into as long as you weren't running any fever. They had childlife specialist on hand for anything you needed. Jake wanted puzzles, paints, games, or movies whatever his fancy ,the childlife specialist was there to make it happen.

Of course, we never went anywhere without our IV pole. You would be surprised at how the kids could get along while attached to a pole. It's as if they had a third arm!!!!

We were always happy to see visitors. This is Ms. Cathy, she was a Jake follower and came to visit on a couple of occasions. She brought Jake a blue's clue board game. I bet we played that game 100 times. He loved it, as long as he won!!! I love this picture it is so typical of him.

Jake loved getting mail. It was a highlight of the day. Man we would tear into those packages and his face would just light up! People were so kind to us, we got tons of mail everyday from all over the world. It was awsome!

Does anyone recall a picture on Mo's blog of me that looks similar to this one??? I believe she made fun of me!!!! If not look back around christmas, it was during the marathon. I was sick and cold, hey Mel, what's your excuse!!!!!!

I have to give her props! When I was tried and thought I could not play one more game, in would walk Mel to spend the weekend or even sometimes the week with us. It was a win win situation. I got a break and Jake got his best friend!

I'll have to get Don to load more pictures on this computer. It's new and I only have my recent pictures on here. I don't know where these came from and was very surpised to see them. I just had to share. I'm not very computer literate, and can only do the things Don has taught me to do. My fault really, I don't want to learn. But after posting these, I want to find more. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. I know I'm not done with the house tour, just keep watching and they will come!!

Staci,
Oh how that little boy can stir it up in this heart of mine:) What a sweet, sweet boy. I am sure you miss him so much.....he is a gem and will ALWAYS be remembered. I love the pic on the hospital bed with his leg crossed, like he was the king of the castle...LOL. Thanks for sharing.....it is a gentle reminder to appreciate all that is truly important in life:) Jake reminds me of that everyday (and Stanton and Emma Grace too.....those kids are sooooo special). Have a great day....and by the way......appropriate that people commenting on the video on Mo's blog today were talking about payback for Miss Ellie Sue......seems Ms Mo, or shall I say Mother Teresa, is getting hers today as well:) You go girl!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness that brings back so many memories of days spent at St Jude. Westin still wants to push his flush on his port. He loves the port and thinks that is the reason that he has to get medicine and when it is gone he will be okay. He measures it everyday and says it is getting smaller......sweet but it makes me cry.

Love the pics!!

It's the Jake Effect! I don't have to tell you how many people loved that boy? Even better is the number of people that NEVER had the blessing of meeting him in person but are changed forever because of his sweet sweet soul. So much purpose! Thanks, Staci for sharing!

Oh so lovely to see photos of Jake again! He will always have a special place in my heart. I have an adorable little scrapbook (thanks Mo!) that I keep in my night table drawer along with several Chemoangel items... they help keep my priorities in perspective.
Lots of hugs, Denise, xoxo

Oh Staci, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful pictures and memories of Jake. I was just over at the caringbridge site today to see if there was anything new posted and to see those beautiful eyes and smile. While I was there the thought crossed my mind that you haven't done a post since he entered heaven's gates. Thank you so much for proving me wrong.
I also want you to know that Jake and his family remains in my thoughts and prayers every day. What an awesome feeling and warmth he continues to bring to my heart.

I too have been a Jake follower for quite some time. I don't even remember how I came across his site, but followed him the last year of his fight. I was drawn to your family and that crazy sister of yours! Then of course have followed both of you on your blogs. My husband even caught the Jake-bug and we made our first trip ever to Memphis this past December and he ran the half-marathon all the while thinking of your little guy! Thanks for sharing him with us and for the post today.....loved it! Dannon

I loved this post and was so pleasantly surprised. I actually looked up to see if I had hit Mo's page again. It definetly made me smile seeing pictures of Jake again.

I was thinking just today that I used to read so many caringbridge pages everyday. Of all the pages I followed, almost every kid has moved on to their heavenly home. I have moved onto reading blogs of a lot of the parents that moved past the cancer updates to everyday living stuff.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane - I look forward to more surprises!!

p.s. Mo looks a lot different back then than she does now! Good job Mo!!!!!

I don't think you ever need to worry about anyone forgetting that boy!!! He's one of a kind!!! I think about Jake everyday. My baby, Hutton has Heart defects and has been on a vent until recently. I hung one of the crosses you made right by her door reminding me to hang in there and BELIEVE. I think of Jake everytime I am entering he room. You are a good Mama and inspire me!

Awe, Staci, that picture was the day I met Jake. Who knew how much all of you would touch my life. What a sweet little angel you have! I thought of him this weekend. I went to a funeral at his cemetery and walked over the hill to say "hello."

Tell Mel that for some reason when I went to read her blog today it said invited readers only. I am not sure how to overcome that little problem. I have been reading since she started the blog with no problems. Thanks for your help.

Oh Staci...
Tell us what all you bought at Spring Market???? Bet Maddiboo has lots of new things....
Cleaned out a drawer today and found...guess what...a bag of Jake's M&M's....had to shed a few tears for that little sweetheart.
Y'all need to come to Schlitterbaum, Sea World, etc this summer and show the boys there are things to do...unlike when you came and school was going on and there was nothing open...
See ya..JJ
